4th grade MEMORY VERSE:
In the beginning God (Elohim) created the heavens and the earth. And He saw that it was good. Genesis 1:1 and 31.
God created everything good. There was no hunger, sadness, or sickness. It’s hard to imagine a world like that. But that is what God created. So what happened?
Eve disobeyed God’s 1 rule. And the world was changed forever. But we also disobey God’s rules. This is called sin. Have you ever disobeyed your parents, hit a brother or sister, called someone a name, or lied? These are all sins. And sin makes your soul dirty. You can’t see your soul, but even when we forget we did something bad, our soul has a big black splot from that sin. We can’t see our soul, but God can. And these yucky black splots seperate us from a perfect God.

Here we are, or Adam and Eve. We are going through life, when we come to a choice. Do we do what is good and right like God wants us to? Or do we choose to do what we want to do? We have all chosen the road of self. But that separates us from God. That’s not a good thing. God is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, and self-control. That means we are separated from all those things. Separated from joy does not sound good. Because it is not.
So how do we get back to God?

Jesus died on the cross to take us back to God. His death was like soap to wash away all of those black splots. He is the only one who could do it because He was both human and God and never sinned. Thank you Jesus for making a way for us to get back to God!
